Equity and Inclusion at the ARC North Thames

At NIHR ARC North Thames equity is fundamental to our overall purpose. We focus on research that will reduce health inequalities and directly improve the health and social care system.

We are committed to improving inclusion in all aspects of our work, including governance and leadership, patient, public and community involvement, research, teaching and training, and operational functions.

Our activities

Equity and Inclusion Committee

Our Equity and Inclusion Committee, which was set up in March 2023, meets regularly through the year to coordinate equity and inclusion activities and initiatives across the ARC. We share lessons, build on best practice, and roll out new initiatives.

Our committee members bring a range of lived and professional experiences (from multiple organisations and sectors) to their role: lived experience of being part of an underserved group, equity and inclusion work, patient and public involvement and engagement work, strategic leadership, research delivery support and academic research.

Equity and inclusion strategy

We are in the process of developing our equity and inclusion strategy. This strategy, which will align with the NIHR’s research inclusion strategy, will set out our commitments and actions towards embedding equity and inclusion activities in all areas of the ARC.
